Rayala Telangana: 10 political reasons
"The stone pelting is continuing and police fired tear-gas shells to disperse the protesters and control the situation," OU Inspector P. Ashok told PTI. An inspector, Vijay Srinivas, sustained minor injuries in the attack, he said.
Meanwhile, police began efforts to take the protesting students into preventive custody. Pro-Telangana students had also clashed with police on Wednesday when the latter foiled their plan to take out a bike rally from the OU campus towards Gun Park as part of protest rallies' call given against the proposal of Rayala Telangana.
The situation on the OU campus otherwise had remained peaceful for the past several months after the ruling Congress (at Centre) approved creation of a separate Telangana state.
In Nampally, lawyers locked the gates of the civil court and prevented judges from entering on Wednesday. The lawyers raised slogans against the Rayala-Telangana proposal.

At Rajendranagar on the outskirts of Hyderabad, Agriculture University students blocked a convoy of YSRC president Jagan Mohan Reddy who was returning from Chennai after meeting Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. The pro-Telangana activists threw rotten fruits at his convoy and tried to block his journey. The police had to use mild force to disperse the students.

Meanwhile, bus services of the state-run State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) were badly affected as TRS leaders and workers held protests near bus stations at different places in Telangana since morning. Shops and other commercial establishments did not open at various places in the region. The personnel of coal mines in the region have also stayed away from work, according to reports reaching here.

The bandh was called by TRS and other pro-Telangana organisations against reported proposal of a bigger Telangana which entails splitting Rayalaseema region and adding two of its four districts to the ten districts of proposed Telangana state. TRS had appealed to people from all walks of life to voluntarily observe the shutdown.

Rayala-Telangana envisages adding Anantapur and Kurnool districts to the proposed state of Telangana. The idea was suggested by some Congress leaders as a way to address problems like water sharing that are involved in the division of Andhra Pradesh.

Media reports said the Centre was seriously considering the proposal. The ruling Congress leaders from Telangana and opposition parties like BJP had opposed Rayala-Telangana.

Some of the Telagana Congress leaders have, however, found fault with the bandh call on Thursday saying the Rayala Telangana proposal is only found in media reports.
A report from Karimnagar, where the separate Telangana agitation is strong, said the bandh was total and peaceful in the district. Commercial establishments, educational institutions and banks remained shut and no untoward incidents were reported.

The Union Cabinet is likely to discuss the report on Telangana and the draft bill to create the new state as the GoM completed its work last night and is believed to have recommended merger of two districts of Rayalseema with the proposed state.

Cabinet note withdraws proposal of Rayala Telangana: Reports

New Delhi: In a U-turn on Thursday, the UPA government withdrew the proposal of Rayala Telangana state and stuck to Telangana with 10 districts, latest reports said.
NDTV, quoting sources, reported that the government took the decision fearing protests from senior Congress leaders and other political parties. However, the Cabinet, which is supposed to meet at Thursday evening, will take a final call.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi held consultations with top party leaders here. The decision to withdraw the Rayala Telangana proposal seems to have come out from this meeting.
The meeting of the Congress core group took place ahead of the meeting of the Union Cabinet which is expected to take a decision on the Telangana issue.
Indications after the Group of Ministers (GoM) meeting on Telangana on Wednesday were that the issue of creation of Rayala Telangana was still open and it was for the Cabinet to take a final decision.
Meanwhile, a bandh called by TRS against the Rayala Telangana proposal hit the normal life in the Telangana region on Thursday. The pro-Telangana students of Osmania University in Hyderabad attacked security personnel with stones prompting them to lob tear gas shells, after the protesters were prevented from taking out a rally from the varsity.

Auto drivers keep ID, meters at bay

Hyderabad: Despite the RTA initiating special drives against autorickshaw drivers months ago, the latter continue to ply without displaying their basic details and often even without any meters.
Despite a hue and cry over safety concerns while travelling in cabs and auto-rickshaws, the drivers continue to flout the rules and are often seen plying without the display boards.
“I have often argued with autorickshaw drivers for charging as per their whims and for demanding extra money after reaching the destination. It happened to me on Sunday itself.
When I wanted to complain about the auto-driver, I realised that there was no information about the driver on display, not even the police help-line number,” said Ruchika Rao, a student of JNTU.
While the RTA and traffic police have undertaken several special drives against buses, lorries and motorists, auto-rickshaws have been let off time and again.
The RTA currently has no drives against these irregularities and officials estimate that roughly 30 per cent of the autorickshaws ply without meters.

Insider behind Mahesh Bank heist

An employee of A.P. Mahesh Cooperative Urban Bank, along with his wife and son, turned out to be the kingpin in the sensational burglary that occurred in the bank’s A.S. Rao Nagar branch a few days ago.
The police nabbed M. Brahma Chary (50), his wife Lalitha and son Veda Virat and recovered 15 kg gold jewellery worth over Rs. 4.5 crore, Cyberabad Police Commissioner C.V. Anand told reporters here on Tuesday. Chary and his son Virat were working as gold appraisers in Mahesh Bank and Axis Bank, respectively.
The family, hailing from Warangal district, was staying at Krushinagar in Nagole. The visuals of Chary captured during daytime in surveillance cameras installed inside the bank enabled the police to detect the case. In the footage, the police officials noticed Chary taking the original keys of the bank shutter, doors and strong room from the chambers of a senior accountant. Of the 10 keys, he managed to prepare nine duplicate keys.
At around 11 p.m. on November 28, Chary entered the bank by opening the shutter and other doors using false keys prepared by him. He first disconnected power supply to the CCTVs and opened the strong room doors with a false key and later cut the grill with a cutting machine. He then broke open the almirah door and stole 15 kg gold ornaments worth over Rs. 4.5 crore.
After the crime, he met his wife and son at Uppal crossroads and handed over the stolen property to them to conceal it at his sister’s house at Madhapur village in Bommalaramaram in Nalgonda. He returned home in an auto rickshaw. Chary melted 10 tolas of stolen gold at Pot Market in Secunderabad and ordered for new ornaments apart from pledging five tolas at different places, said Mr. Anand.
While committing the robbery, he covered his face with a mask to prevent police from identifying him. He also threw chilli powder inside the bank to prevent police dogs from sniffing clues.
Incidentally, when the police started searching for clues at the bank, Chary stood near a medical shop and on seeing the police dog, he escaped from the spot. A few minutes later, the dog stood in front of the medical shop after visiting the bank premises.
Police inquires revealed that Chary had discontinued SSC and learnt goldsmith work. He later started his own business in his native place at Janagaon in Warangal district. After his marriage, he came to the city and started goldsmith business at Jaipuri Colony in Nagole. He later started working in Mahesh Bank as a gold appraiser, the police official said.
He faced financial problems after performing his second daughter’s marriage in 2010. He was also leading a lavish life. As his earnings were not sufficient, he decided to commit the theft and hatched a plan with his family members.

Nara Rohit has five releases lined up

Nara Rohit seems to have learnt his lessons, and that too the hard way!
Initially he did one film after another and there were long gaps between his releases, thereby throwing him out of the Tollywood race.
Now after the bitter experience, he has five films in hand and is busy working on them.
'Pratinidhi' is all set for release, 'Shankara' is complete and 'Madrasi' is on the sets.
Another film that he is working is being directed by lyricist Krishna Chaitanya and is presently in production. The latest news is that this film, with Visaka Singh as the heroine, may be titled 'Rowdy Fellow'.
The fifth film will be jointly produced by Cinema 5 and Movie Mills. The film, which has completed almost one third of its shoots, has music by Sunny. It is being said that all the five films will release by May 2014. It looks like his fans are in for a Rohit treat in the coming six months. Hopefully these films will establish him as a hero!

Kohli is best suited for No 4 slot, says Sourav Ganguly

Chennai: While M.S.Dhoni is yet to disclose the identity of his No.4 batsman for the upcom ing Test series against South Africa, former India skipper Sourav Ganguly feels Virat Kohli who is on a dream run is best suited for the key spot which is up for grabs after the retirement of Sachin Tendulkar. “I think, it's going to be Kohli. “The team has to bowl well to make an impact in the series.

Shami, Umesh Yadav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Shami has done exceptionally well and he has got pace. He's a special talent,“ said Ganguly.

Kerala U-25 side in quarterfinals

Kozhikode: Kerala drew with Jharkhand in their last Plate Group `A' match held at Ranchi on Monday to secure 21 points from five matches and enter the quarterfinals as plate group runners-up in the C.K Naydu under-25 cricket tournament.
A brilliant partnership of 136 runs for the last wicket between Vikash Singh (85) and A.R Kumar (46 not out) secured an 8-run lead for the hosts against Kerala's first innings score of 368.
But an impressive centu ry by Sachin Mohan (105 batting) helped Kerala prolong their innings for a draw on the last day of the match.
Earlier, Vishnu Vinod, Jaffar Jamal, Abhishek Mohan and Monish hit half centuries to guide Kerala to 368 runs in the first innings.
Brief scores: Kerala 368 in 143 overs (Vishnu Vinod 73, Jaffar Jamal 62, Abishek Mohan 50, Monish 55) & 183 for 2 in 50 overs (Sachin Mohan 105 not out) drew with Jharkhand 376 in 155 overs (Vikash Singh 85, A.R Kumar 46 not out).

Doors open on Rayala Telangana

Hyderabad: Wittingly or unwittingly, the Congress leadership dropped sufficient hints on Monday that Rayala Telangana with 12 districts, including Kurnool and Anantapur from the Rayalaseema region, is a possibility. The proposal has drawn sharp criticism from Telangana leaders, including Union minister Jaipal Reddy.
Union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde, in an informal chat with newsmen, said that the Rayala Telangana proposal was very much under consideration, but that no final decision had been taken. He said the GoM would meet on Tuesday evening to finalise the draft Bill.

AICC general secretary Digvijaya Singh said the Rayala Telangana proposal was very much alive and it was for the GoM and Union Cabinet to consider and approve it.
The indications, however, are that the Telangana Bill will not make it to Parliament by December 20, the last day of the Winter Session. A special session will then have to be called to pass the legislation.

Relief to sick industries

Hyderabad: With the RBI not acceding to the request of industry bodies to give sick Medium, Small and Micro Enterprises (MSMEs) extensions to pay their dues, the industries are left in a lurch.
Roughly 7 lakh small and medium industries (particularly in the manufacturing sector) employing over 40 lakh people are facing complete breakdown.
The total outstanding loan amount of the entire MSME sector as on June 2013 was RS 61,318 crore as discussed in the recently held State-Level Bankers’ Committee meeting. Of these 7 lakh units, roughly 3 lakh are facing closure as per industry associations which have termed the crisis as an extraordinary situation coupled with natural calamities.
Among the key requests that the RBI turned down were: a moratorium period of one year be given to the sick industries without any penal interest; the original limits of loan sanction be restored and cash credit or demand loan be released immediately; and; loans for purchase of diesel generator sets along with simple interest be provided to all MSMEs. Rescheduling of loans without effecting the status of the industry during which period no unit should be made NPA, was also among the key requests.
Among the industry associations which made formal representations on these issues to the Industries Department were Federation of  Small and Medium Enterprises of AP, Association of Lady Entrepreneurs of AP, Federation of AP Industries and Federation of AP Small Industries Association.
The manufacturing sector has taken a severe beating and many industries, which had earlier become non-performing assets, have now been declared as “sick”; worse still is the fact that even the allied sectors have been impacted.
“The situation has cast a shadow on the flow of investments. Alarmed by the situation, many industry associations had been pleading with the state government to provide incentive packages and recommend rehabilitation of financial institutions to tide over the crisis. Even the existing units are achieving only 50 per cent production, resulting in huge losses,” said FAPI president B.V. Rama Rao.
“Even the State Level Bankers’ Committee meeting held in the presence of RBI regional directors discussed these issues and sent suggestions but they were put on the backburner.

Polavaram gets more important

Hyderabad: Recent cyclones that have swept across the state have caused severe damage to crops in the coastal districts. Farmers have been losing crops valued at Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,000 crore every alternate year due to cyclones since they are not able to harvest their crops before October-November due to the delayed start of the kharif season.
The Brajesh Kumar Tribunal report released recently, that sounded the death-knell of at least half-a-dozen state irrigation projects, including those in the Telangana region, makes the Polavaram project all the more important.
A report by IIT-Delhi said that supplementing the Krishna delta through Polavaram would advance the sowing to June and enable the crops to be harvested before the October-November cyclone season.
The report was prepared against the backdrop of the Karnataka government increasing the height of the Almatti dam more than a decade ago. “We will be able to divert 80 TMC of water from Polavaram to the Krishna delta. The needs of first phase of water release for the beginning of the kharif season in June could be met from Polavaram waters,” said irrigation principal secretary, Adiya Nath Das.
Secondly, the burden of releasing water from the Srisailam reservoir to Nagarjunasagar for use in the Krishna delta will also substantially come down and water thus saved, could be utilised for projects in Mahbubnagar and Rayalaseema.
The Brajesh Kumar Tribunal report is a lost opportunity for the state to make full use of surplus waters as other states are also permitted to use the surplus. “This will deprive at least 11 projects being built on the Krishna, of water,” said senior Telugu Desam leader P. Keshav.
The long cherished dream of Telangana farmers, in particular those in Mahbubnagar and Nalgonda districts, will be shattered because the Kalwakurthy, Nettempadu and Srisailam Left Bank Canal will face water shortage when the tribunal award is implemented. Handri-Ne-eva and Galeru-Nagari projects catering to Rayalaseema will also be hit.

Movie Review: 'Venkatadri Express'

Cast: Sundeep Kishan, Rakul Preet, Nagineedu, Brahmaji and Jayaprakash Reddy
Director: Merlapaka Gandhi
Rating: 2.5
Yet another young director, Merlapaka Gandhi, makes his debut with 'Venkatadri Express'. He successfully turns a simple plot, not a regular masala subject, into an entertaining film.
The simple story goes thus: Ram Murthy (Nagineedu), a retired headmaster, is a strict father. He follows a strict code of conduct in his house — family members are allowed only 100 mistakes after which they will be thrown out of the house for life.
Sundeep (Sundeep Kishan), the younger son of the house is a helpful guy, but always gets into trouble whenever he helps anybody. Having used up his quota of 99 mistakes, he stands on the threshold of being thrown out of his home.
In the meantime, his elder brother Brahmaji’s (Brahmaji) marriage is fixed at Tirupati and the entire family leaves for Tirupathi by Venkatadri Express. As usual, Sundeep gets into some minor skirmish and misses the train. To avoid being punished for his 100th mistake, he tries to catch the train. There begins his adventure. In the process, he meets Prarthana (Rakul Preet) and how he joins his family members forms the crux of the story.
Sundeep Kishan delivers a decent performance, but needs to work on his expressions. The action scenes leave a lot to be desired. Nagineedu plays the strict father to perfection and gives yet another good performance. Newcomer Rakul Preet Singh is pretty and impressive in the small role that she has. She has a bright future. Saptagiri and Tagubothu Ramesh provide good comic relief. Brahmaji brings on the laughter in his brief role.
Kudos to Melapaka Gandhi for turning a simple story into an interesting film.
Though the story is predictable, he manages some good entertainment with his screenplay. The only drawback is that the film gets boring and drags too much in the last hour.
Veteran cinematographer Chota K. Naidu handles the camera adeptly. The three songs in the film composed by Ramana Gogula make for pleasant listening. Dialogues are good.

Allu Arjun-Shruti Hassan's 'Race Gurram'

Allu Arjun and Shruti Haasan starrer 'Race Gurram' will not be in the Sankranti race.
While the film is being shot at a brisk pace, there is still a lot of work to be done.
"They are planning to shoot a chase scene with Allu Arjun, Saloni and other artistes in Hyderabad. After that, the unit may shift to Kumbakonam to film a few key scenes," informs a source close to the unit.
With all this work remaining, it seems like the film may be out only by the end of February 2014.
Also, director Surender Reddy and Allu Arjun don't want to rush things.
"They are not in a hurry to complete the film and are putting in all efforts," the source adds.
If they take any longer, the release could be pushed forward to next summer.

‘I wanted to be a gardener’

This soft-spoken guy has always been in the spotlight for more reasons than one. But deep down, he is one who looks inward.
“I have always wanted to be a gardener and I love the time I spend in my garden,” he says, quietly.
Since his debut with Akkada Ammayi Ikkada Abbayi, a dozen of his films in his 17-year long career have crossed the 100-day run. Hits ‘ya’ flops really don’t matter to him. Post Gabbar Singh, the most successful film of 2012, it is Atharintiki Daaredi in 2013 that is being talked about. It is the first Telugu film to join the Rs. 100-crore revenue club after a run of 50 days.
A 100-minute long interview ends up with more talk about himself as a person and less about his films. “I keep searching for the real Pawan Kalyan. We keep shifting from one phase to another, a metamorphosis,” he says. For one who has admittedly been a below-average student in school, he is well-informed about international news because he is a voracious reader.

Four flyovers mooted at Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills

Hyderabad: The upmarket areas of Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills will get four flyovers if the recommendations of Comprehensive Transportation Study (CTS) are implemented. The peak hour traffic from all the arms at each of the four junctions is already crossing 10,000 passenger car units (PCUs) at peak hours, making it necessary to have grade separators.

The CTS conducted by LEA Associates for the HMDA has identified the road junctions on Banjara Hills Roads No 10 and 12, at the water filling station and at Jubilee Hills check post as needing flyovers to avoid choking of vehicular traffic in the near future.

The report said the use of personal vehicles was extensive on all the main roads leading to these four junctions. It would be advisable to construct flyovers at the four junctions as traffic is projected to increase several fold at these junctions by 2021.

HMDA transport planner M. Manoj Kumar said that though flyovers are not a permanent solution to recurring traffic jams, they would certainly help in easing the traffic congestion for some years.
“The comprehensive transportation study is not only looking at building tr-ansport infrastructure, but is also simultaneously trying to encourage and develop mass public transport system so that the use of personal vehicles comes down resulting in reduction of traffic volume on roads and junctions,” he said.

For example, the Metro Rail Corridor-3 will touch the Jubilee Hills check post, but a flyover is needed at this junction as the use of personal vehicles is more.

In fact, the projected traffic volume, up to 2021, comprises over 50 per cent of personal vehicles on this route even after Metro rail starts to run on this route.

The CTS has also suggested the need for construction of 11 road-under bridges or road over bridges at railway crossings in GHMC limits before 2021, and another 24 railway bridges in the Hyderabad Metropolital Area by 2041.

South Central Railway film shooting sites gain popularity

 Hyderabad:

The South Central Railway is gaining popularity with Bollywood, Tamil and even the Kannada movie industries for shooting.
A fortnight back an untitled movie under the Yash Chopra banner starring Aditya Roy Kapoor was shot at the Nampally station and a few other production houses have also sought permissions.
The SCR has 16 locations that are rented out for shootings and officials say that the popularity stems from the fact that there are very few alternative locations. The industry friendly approach of the SCR also helps. Some of the recent movies that were shot in SCR’s locations were Sitamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu, Maryada Ramanna and Julai.

Among the 16 most popular destinations let out for shootings are Necklace Road, Nagapalli, Shankarapally, Godamguda, Lingampalli, Vikarabad, Sadashivpet, Hyderabad Station (Hyderabad-Secunde-rabad section), Timmapur between Kacheguda-Dhone, Kacheguda, Manoharabad (Secunderabad-Nizamabad section), Rajahmundry (Vijayawada-Visakhapatnam section), Kadiyam, Kotala, Madanna-palli Road-Tummanagutta (Guntakal-Chittoor section).

SCR lets out locations as per the demand of the script, trains and even manpower needed for the shootings.

This year permissions for close to 35 films have been given while in 2012 permissions for 20 films had been given.

City might get rains this weekend

 30th Nov 2013

Hyderabad: As a result of the low pressure formed due to the cyclonic storm Lehar, the city received a few spells of rain on Thursday evening and Friday. The Meteorological department officials also predicted light to moderate thundershowers at a few places along coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

“Hyderabad received about 0.2 mm of rainfall on Friday, but might receive more over the weekend,” said MET officials.

The depression moved further in the West NorthWest direction  and weakened into a wellmarked low pressure area along  coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Currently, building up a low pressure area over Telangana and its  neighbourhood, it is likely to bring rainfall in these areas. Rainfall was reported at a few places over coastal AP and Telangana and isolated rain occurred over Rayalaseema.

T leaders oppose TRS merger with Cong

30th Nov, 2013

Hyderabad: Telangana Congress leaders who had been demanding that the TRS merge with the Congress before the polls are now opposed to the idea.
The leaders are of the view that the TRS and Congress should fight independently in the forthcoming general elections. Most Telangana Congress leaders feel that if the TRS merges with the Congress before the next general elections, it will be beneficial for Telugu Desam.
They say that though the TD has a strong cadre base at the grassroots level in Telangana, it has lost people’s support due to its “two eyes”policy on Telangana. A TRS-Congress merger might also help the BJP at some places, they said.
TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao has also indicated that the party will contest the next general elections independently and there are no plans of merging with the Congress. And Telangana Congress leaders too are on the same page.
In the past, the T-Congress leaders had demanded the TRS-Congress merger for two reasons.
KCR had announced that the TRS would merge with the Congress if it granted a Telangana state. And, as TD also supported a separate Telangana state and had written to the prime minister to that effect, the Telangana Congress leaders felt that the Congress might suffer in a three-way fight between the TRS, TD and the Congress.
The T-Congress leaders say the fight in Telangana was between the TRS and the Congress as the former had fought for a Telangana state and the Congress had granted it.
